Florida Department of Health (FLDOH)

The department has been a primary customer of ASD for many years. Together with Florida’s public health professionals, ASD has developed and managed key HIE environments and health information systems.
As a consultant, ASD has played a key role in the development and support of the Florida SHOTS system, a public health immunization HIE. Using HL7 and supporting technologies, SHOTS enables invaluable information exchange between county health departments, HMOs, public health officials, and other key stakeholders. ASD's experienced and PMP-certified project manager helped deliver the SHOTS system on time and within budget and continues to integrally guide system updates.
With the PRISM and Merlin
surveillance systems, ASD provided state-of-the art .NET
web applications that serve as public health HIEs for
sharing data on STDs and other communicable diseases.
Due to the popularity of the PRISM system in Florida,
other states have joined in and are using PRISM for
surveillance.
In cooperation with Johns Hopkins University, ASD
provided management support for the piloting of Essence,
a syndromic surveillance application, to increase the
quality of early event detection for the Division of
Disease Control.
Over the last few years, electronic laboratory reporting
has been an increasing focus of ASD's service delivery.
We have teamed with several bureaus within FLDOH to
establish the roots for paperless disease reporting in
Florida. Working closely with lab partners such as Quest
and Labcorp, ASD’s consultants were influential in the
creation of processes by which DOH is transitioning each
lab provider from paper to electronic reporting via the
national HL7 standards.

Mississippi State Department of Health (MDOH) and Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH)
For MDOH, ASD upgraded the enterprise network
infrastructure to a more efficent, effective, and secure
environment. ASD's project team consisted of a project
manager, two network engineers, and five desktop
specialists. ASD has also provided consulting and
perform services to ADPH for improving data exchange
between disparate databases.
